Poor Rick Grimes may already have had it up to here, but apparently people (not the undead kind) are still into AMC’s The Walking Dead, which will be on its ninth season come October later this year. But for those who do not mind seeing walkers in real life (or real-ish life), they might be snapping to know that The Walking Dead: Our World mobile game is now going live.
Developed by Next Games, The Walking Dead: Our World happens to be an augmented reality assisted game, much like 2016’s ridiculously successful Pokemon Go. But since this new Walking Dead title is a game where the player is watching out for biters instead of cutely named fictional little critters, the objective is to survive rather than hunt and gather.
The game’s premise is dead simple -- players are provided with a real world map of gamers’ environment, as well as icons that indicate where the closest undead, infested areas, and caches are. It is the players’ job to spot the nearest cache, tap on it, and proceed to destroying zombie brains. Zombies are made to appear directly in front of the player (because in real life, a zombie behind you is no fun at all). To add to one’s undead casualty tally, just tap on the zombie to shoot it. As expected, shots to the head will cause more damage.
One of the cool things a player can do is transform the mobile game’s illustrated background into his real world surroundings, and then see where Zed is at. The more the player is engaged with the game, the more weapons (and allies) he can accumulate. People can even get Rick, Michonne, and Daryl to fight with them. As for weapons, they can either be exchanged, or upgraded. The Walking Dead: Our World also offers full support for cooperative battles against undead hordes, as well as the ability to build a base (an achievement that promises in-world rewards).
The creators of the game have cleverly made sure that no matter where the player is based (in an urban area, or in a farm), he can still count on spotting zombies, whether it is just around that street corner, or just behind that countryside picket fence.
The Walking Dead: Our World mobile game can be downloaded from Google Play or from the App Store. So those who want more zombie apocalyptic mayhem in their daily lives, make sure they install the game now.
